How to compare two lists or columns in Calc easily?
Comparing two lists in Calc is a routine operation in any spreadsheetSurely for this reason you want to learn how to do it in Calc. The procedure is very simple, you just have to follow the steps that we will give you below and you will be able to do them without any problem.
First things first, go to the spreadsheet you want to compare and open it to begin the procedure. Then Click on the cell of one of the columns you want compare and go to format which is in the menu above.
Then go to “conditional format” and then to “condition”, and in the box that will appear you must select in condition 1 the section “The formula is”. Then you must enter the comparison formula that will be written in the following way, you have to first put COUNTIF.
Now in parentheses you must place the values of the second column which will be compared with the first in this way ($ E $ 3: $ E $ 30; B3)> = 1. In the example you can see that $ E $ 3: $ E $ 30 It covers the values of the second column from the first box to the last box where you will have text if this is the case.
And we also have B3 -> = 1 that represents the second box, this formula means that if the range E3: E30 appears in cell B3 it must return the value “true”. All that remains is to add the highlighting and for this you will have to display the options in “Apply style” and click on “New style”.
Now go to the tab “Background” and then choose a background color so that cells with the same value are highlighted, and then click “OK”. The next thing you will have to do is extend these formulas to the other cells and for this you will only have to go to the brush tool with cell 1 selected.
Then simply drag the brush over the other cells and thus the value you put in cell 1 will be compared with the range of cell 2. Then simply repeat these steps for list two with the only difference that the formula for 2 would remain something like that COUNTIF ($ B $ 3: $ B $ 30; E3)> = 1. And voila, if you correctly followed the aforementioned steps, you will have the result you expected.
